Dr. Saida Maaroufi, Winner of the 2016 IEEE Canada Women in Engineering Prize

The IEEE Montreal Section is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2016 IEEE Canada Women in Engineering Prize, sponsored by the Judy Clift Fund  is Dr. Saida Maaroufi of the École Polytechnique de Montréal. This award is to recognize excellence in young women engineering professionals and to support the Women In Engineering programme within IEEE in Canada.

Dr. Saida Maaroufi is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Mobile Computing and Networking Research Laboratory (LARIM), École Polytechnique de Montréal. She is also an associate professor at the Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies of Haïti, ISTEAH. She received her Ph.D. degree with distinction in computer engineering from the Department of Computer Science and Software Engineering (DGIGL), École Polytechnique de Montréal in 2015. Prior to that, she received a Master degree from the Institut National des Postes et Télécommunications affiliated with the University of Mohamed V in 2007.

She received in 2014, the NSERC-DIVA First and Best Poster Award at the Fourth NSERC-DIVA Workshop, she was awarded a certificate of reviewing in recognition of the review made for the Journal of Computers and Electrical Engineering, ELSEVIER, in February 2014 and she was recipient of doctoral scholarships rewarding her academic excellence, while pursuing her graduate studies.

Dr. Maaroufi has engaged in many professional activities: she is the founder and the co-chair of two international IEEE Workshops namely IEEE WiMob-SEUNet 2016 to be held in New York, USA and IEEE WiMob-DSoNets 2014 that was successfully held at Cyprus in 2014. She also serves as a reviewer for several international journals and she is on the technical program committee of several IEEE/ACM conferences.

She is a judge at Youth Science Canada, a member of the ACM N2 Women research community, a secretary of the IEEE Women In Engineering (WIE) Montreal Section, a member of the IEEE TISP program and a technical consultant of the IEEE SIGHT. She is also a Moodle manager at ISTEAH and an active member of GRAHN-Monde.

Her research interests span several areas of wireless and mobile computing including distributed computing, interworking architecture design, and context-aware ubiquitous computing.
