Policy and Tech Talk
November 1, 2024 @ 7:12 pm - February 28, 2025 @ 7:14 pm
Despite the significant contributions engineers make to Canadian society, their involvement in core policy discussions remains limited. Recognizing this disconnect, IEEE Canada is undertaking initiatives to bridge this gap. With over 70 student branches across the country, IEEE Canada is uniquely positioned to engage engineering students in policy discussions and encourage the development of innovative solutions to emerging technological challenges. To address these challenges, we are launching a pilot program titled “Policy and Tech Talk” (PTT). This program aims to engage engineering students in discussions about the intersection of technology and policy, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to policy development in Canada. Phase 1: Writing Contest (November & December 2024) The first phase of the program will focus on a writing contest during . Phase 2: Podcast Participation with Policymakers (January & February 2025) The top three to four essays from the contest will be selected, and their authors will be invited to participate in a podcast with relevant policymakers to discuss their ideas. This will not only provide students with an opportunity to present their insights to influential figures but also bridge the gap between academic discourse and policy development.
