Evidence of non-Gaussianity in microrings

May 15 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Abstract: The undepleted pump approximation is typically valid for squeezed light generation in microring resonators with a third-order nonlinearity, such as silicon nitride (SiN), because the process is not efficient enough to significantly deplete the pump. However, recent work on second-order nonlinear processes in indium gallium phosphide (InGaP) microrings has demonstrated high conversion efficiency of the pump, suggesting that the undepleted pump approximation may no longer hold in such cases. In this talk, I will present recent theoretical and numerical results on spontaneous parametric downconversion (SPDC) in InGaP microrings, where we find evidence of non-Gaussianity arising from the efficient conversion of pump photons into signal and idler photons. This work opens a path toward the deterministic generation of non-Gaussian states on-chip. Co-sponsored by: Prof. Nicolas Quesada Speaker(s): Colin Vendromin J.
