Achievements

Three grants from IEEE Canada Foundation (ICF) for Montreal Section, applied by Azfar Adib:

Grant 1: Incorporating Sustainability in Our Endeavours. It is for enhancing awareness about sustainability among IEEE students’ community, focusing on the real-life impact of our work on people and the earth.

Grant 2: Piloting A Student-centered Portfolio Site in Technical Communication. It is for enhancing and recognizing technical writing, content making and presentation skills among IEEE student members.

Grant 3: Digital Identity Management Workshop. It is for increasing cybersecurity awareness among IEEE community in Montreal, particularly considering recent increase of scamming incidents.


Congratulations to Prof. Srikanta M.N. Swamy of Concordia University, Montreal, for receiving the 2022 Mac Van Valkenburg Award June 2022

The Mac Van Valkenburg Award by IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, honors individuals for outstanding technical contributions and distinguishable leadership in a field within the scope of CAS Society. The award is based on the quality and significance of contribution, and continuity of technical leadership. We would like to congratulate Prof. Srikanta M.N. Swamy, Research Professor and Concordia Tier I Research Chair, for receiving the 2022 Mac Van Valkenburg Award. The citation reads:

“For his pioneering and lifelong contributions, particularly in multidimensional signal processing, distributed parameter networks, graph theory, discrete transforms and image processing. For nearly six decades of outstanding contributions to education and for life long dedication to the service of the CAS society”.

He is a recipient of many other CAS society awards including the John Choma Education Award and the Golden Jubilee Medal in 2000, and the Guillemin-Cauer Best Paper Award in 1986, as well as the IEEE Montreal Section Gold Medal in 2021 and the Constantin Budeanu Prize from the Romanian Academy in 2006.


Congratulations to Dr. Ashok Vijh on being elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering

Dr. Ashok Vijh has held the title of Maitre-de-Recherche at Hydro Québec since 1973. He is the winner of the Killam Prize in Engineering, a Life Fellow of the IEEE, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and former president of the RSC Academy of Science. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, and of the Order of Québec. Dr. Vijh has advanced electrochemical technologies such as fuel cells, advanced batteries, hydrogen electrolyzers and photoelectochemical solar devices as well as for the treatment of cancerous tumors. He has received over 60 distinctions, published over 400 refereed papers and eight books.


2020 Exemplary Section Award (IEEE Region 7 Canada)

We are proud to announce that the IEEE Montréal Section was presented with the 2020 Exemplary Section Award under the large section category (more than 1500 members) by IEEE Region 7 Canada!

2019 Outstanding Section in Membership Recruitment

The IEEE Montreal Section was recognized by the IEEE Membership Recruitment and Recovery Committee for meeting its recruitment goal for 2019 membership year. The membership development goals were developed based on the section’s four year performance and growth of IEEE membership in the Montreal Section.


2018 IEEE Canada Exemplary Large Section Award

In the IEEE Canada Dinner & Awards Gala organized in February 2019, the IEEE Montreal Section was presented with the Exemplary Large Section Award for “good section leadership, management and administration during 2018”. Congratulations to all section volunteers and members, especially Dr. Amy Pinchuk (past Section Chair) for her incredible leadership!
