In order to facilitate the essential relationships with industry partners, we are seeking a dynamic team member to lead the charge.
The Business Development Manager facilitates the critical linkage between the research community at the University of Ottawa and our external partners (including technology-based businesses, funding agencies and related organizations). They will also set strategies to develop, protect and deploy the associated technologies through negotiated agreements, with a goal of creating positive economic and societal impacts based upon University-based technologies and discoveries.

Essential Qualifications
- A degree in science/engineering from a recognized university in an area of specific relevance to the position (electrical engineering, physics, computer science);
- A second degree in business or law from a recognized university would be an asset;
- Extensive knowledge of the public-sector (university) research environment and the ability to understand the processes that support the mobilization of research results into the private sector; this level of knowledge would normally be acquired through experience;
- Knowledge of patenting processes and the variety of issues and decisions that arise throughout;
- Knowledge of the various government programs, including funding, to support technology development and innovation;
- Extensive experience creating technology development and application strategies relying upon market research, an effective relationship with academic investigators and past experience to best position a given technology to deliver both economic and social impacts;
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and triage work based upon sound decision-making principles and organizational goals and objectives;
- Strong software application skills, including but not limited to, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, information retrieval; information and database
- Excellent listening, oral presentation and writing
- Highest level of ethics and integrity in professional matters; sensitivity for confidentiality and scrupulous commitment to the best interests of uOttawa and its
- Bilingualism – English and French
