The IEEE Northern Canada Section is issuing a Call for Capstone Project Competition Applications that are intended to acknowledge exceptional Capstone projects under development in post-secondary institutions headquartered within the Section jurisdiction (Northern Alberta and the three Territories).

To be considered, Capstone projects must be in one or more fields of Computing and Electrical Engineering and be scheduled for completion by the end of July 2021. Prizes of $400, $300, $200 depeding on ranking as well as formal recognition (certificate) by the Section will be given to selected projects (one prize per project). Winning projects will be selected on the basis of merit at the discretion of an appointed technical committee without the possibility of appeal.

Please register your team at https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/275016 using your IEEE membership number by 11:55 PM MDT, July 19, 2021.

Also submit the following material to Prof. Maiga Chang at prof.maiga.chang@ieee.org no later than July 31, 2021:

– Name and contact information of the institution, department, department chair, and IEEE Student Branch Advisor, if applicable;

– Title the Capstone project;

– Date and time the project will be presented, if applicable, and whether the presentation will be open to the public;

– A two-page (maximum) abstract of the Capstone project, which must contain the following elements:

area (field) the project belongs to (e.g., electronics, telecommunications, power, etc.); a description of the engineering problem the project is intended to solve; a description of and reasoning behind the chosen methodology; if hardware was created, highlight its fundamental working elements and a describe its functionality; a description of how the proposed project advances the current state-of-the-art; a description of the main findings of the project and how future research could improve upon the project’s current contribution(s).

All submission materials must be prepared in pdf format only.

With this initiative, the Section expects to increase student awareness of IEEE and its activities, as well as to provide an avenue to reduce the financial burden students may face during a Capstone project development.

Both domestic and international students may apply. The student’s home post-secondary institution must be headquartered within the jurisdiction of the IEEE Northern Canada Section. The winner(s) must collect their prize and certificates in person at one of the Northern Canada Section’s events, if the student(s) reside in Edmonton.

Eligibility for this scholarship is dependent on IEEE membership status – at least one member of the team must be a member of IEEE. To join IEEE, please [visit the IEEE website](https://www.ieee.org/membership/join/index.html?WT.mc_id=hc_join).

Late or incomplete submissions will be deemed ineligible. Please email prof.maiga.chang@ieee.org should any clarification be needed.
