Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles

March 20, 2017 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The ECE Dept. Concordia University Student BranchIndustrial Applications Society Chapter, Power & Energy Society Chapter, Power Electronics Society Chapter, and Industrial Electronics Society Chapter cordially invite you to a technical seminar presented by  Dr. Fei Gao, Associate Professor at University of Technology of Belfort-Montbéliard (UTBM) Please register using the link provided below.

Abstract

The fuel cell is a potential candidate for terrestrial transportation in the future. A fuel cell is able to directly convert the chemical energy stored in fuel (e.g. hydrogen) into electricity, without undergoing different intermediary conversion steps. This presentation will mainly focus on the proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell technology which has been largely used in fuel cell electric vehicles. The PEM fuel cell operating principles, such as its physics, structure, power characteristics, will be presented and discussed. Different powertrain configurations within fuel cells electric vehicles will be shown with some real fuel cell vehicle examples around the world. A short introduction about the current state-of-the-art of PEM fuel cells and challenges faced by the deployment of fuel cell electric vehicles will be given at last.
